The Ann Arbor College of Martial Arts offers a complete, comprehensive, no-nonsense, reality-based system of self-defense for adults. Our focus is on practical self-defense, physical conditioning, and conflict de-escalation skill sets. We simulate real-life assault scenarios and apply functional defense solutions.

The Ann Arbor College of Martial Arts’s Godai Goshinjutsu Martial Arts incorporates a combination of techniques, concepts, and principles commonly found in 4 effective disciplines: Ninpo Taijutsu, Jujutsu, Muay Thai Kickboxing, and Kali which provide students with a realistic personal protection and fitness system for a modern world.
Ninpo Taijutsu: (philosophy, techniques, concepts, principles, applications) Ninpo Taijutsu is the core of Godai Goshinjutsu Martial Arts, it encompasses an expansive body of martial arts disciplines from no less than nine interconnected traditions. Ninpo Taijutsu is a self defense and fighting system, not a sport. All the techniques focus on strategies and effectiveness in real-life conditions and situations. The motto is 'There are no rules!'. The attacks and defenses in Ninpo Taijutsu training are designed primarily for close quarter, possibly life threatening situations. The goal of training is to neutralize attacks, counter attack for self protection purposes, and escape rapidly and safely as possible. Though self protection is the main goal of Ninpo Taijutsu, the techniques, conditioning and drills make it the ideal training method for physical fitness as well.
Takagi Yoshin Ryu Jujutsu (techniques, concepts, principles, philosophy, application) Takagi Yoshin-ryu Jujutsu grappling teaches our students how to defend themselves in the event that they are assaulted in tight spaces like hallways, stairwells, between automobiles, crowded bars, seated or if ”taken to the ground” in an altercation. These techniques, concepts, and methods do not rely on superior size, speed, strengths or athleticism. Through learning throws, joint locks, balance breaking strategies and submission holds, students will be better prepared to defend themselves while standing up in close range, outnumbered, or on the ground. These techniques and concepts are similar to those found in Aikido, Chin-Na, Hapkido, Judo, Jujutsu and Silat.
Kickboxing- (techniques, concepts, principles) Knowing that self protection and sport fighting are totally different situations, our Godai Goshinjutsu Striking Curriculum teaches our students techniques used in all ranges of realistic stand up assault prevention while getting them in the best shape of their lives. The Godai Goshinjutsu Striking Curriculum incorporates punching techniques similar to western boxing with the kicking, kneeing, and elbow strikes common in Muay Thai Kickboxing. These techniques, concepts, and methods focus on timing, distancing, angling and bone alignment to grant superior striking and defensive capabilities. This combination makes for a dynamic fitness experience while training in a world class striking system.
Kali (concepts, techniques, principles) In modern world self protection, the need for ranged weapon defense and weapons training is a reality. When confronted with an attacker wielding a knife, stick, club or chain, our student will know how to properly defend themselves with and against these weapons. The arts of Godai Tanto-jutsu (knife), Godai Hanbo-jutsu (stick & club), and Godai Gusari-jutsu (chain, cord, or rope) gives the Ann Arbor College of Martial Arts student the knowledge needed to survive.
By combining these realistic and effective systems of the martial arts, a student will be better able to defend themselves in a myriad of assault situations. Where most systems of martial arts focus mainly on one area of technique, our mixed martial arts approach ensures that we train well rounded students of self protection.
